Government Idiocy

Recently congress passed and the president signed another extension of unemployment benefits. Now, before anyone gets up in arms about my stance on this, I am not saying that people who don’t have a job through no fault of their own don’t need help, they do.  However, I am a firm believer that we have to let things hit bottom before they will ever truly recover. Right now the economy is like an Alcoholic on his way down, but this Alcoholic still has everyone making excuses for him, giving him money to pay the bills when he blew his paycheck on booze and hookers, bailing him out of jail when he drove home drunk etc. It is time to take a step back, let it take its course and find out where rock bottom really is. After he hits rock bottom only then can he pull himself up.

The problem with this administration is that it has no sense of history, we have been here before twice in the last 100 years. Once prior to Ronald Reagan, and once with the Great Depression, both times the government trying to “fix it” didn’t work and only made things worse. What fixed it was less government interference and LOWERING TAXES. Here is a thought for the administration, follow Ronald Reagan NOT Roosevelt and Wilson. DUH! It isn’t that hard people and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist.

What we can learn from England

A British lawmaker Thursday began a new attempt Thursday to reform the country’s libel laws, long criticized for what is said to be a chilling effect on journalism and free speech.Liberal Democrat Anthony Lester’s proposed bill is intended to increase the burden of proof on those who sue for libel, forcing them to show evidence they have suffered substantial harm or financial loss.

“The time is overripe for Parliament to replace our patched-up archaic law with one that gives stronger protection to freedom of speech,” said Lester, a human rights and civil liberties lawyer. “The whole idea is to strike a fairer balance between private reputation and public interest.”b

So apparently a lawmaker in England is trying to give the English more freedom, while we seem to be losing ours. Is it me, or is this just weird? Isn’t the USA the land of the free and home of the brave? But lord we can’t even keep our own secrets.

Iraq Vet required to remove flag from home

An Army veteran in Wisconsin will be allowed to display an American flag until Memorial Day, but the symbol honoring his service in Iraq and Kosovo must come down next Tuesday, his wife told FoxNews.com.

Dawn Price, 27, of Oshkosh, Wis., said she received a call from officials at Midwest Realty Management early Wednesday indicating that she and her husband, Charlie, would be allowed to continue flying the American flag they’ve had in their window for months through the holiday weekend. The couple had previously been told they had to remove the flag by Saturday or face eviction due to a company policy that bans the display of flags, banners and political or religious materials. On one hand, I can understand the Management company’s position if they do in fact ban all flags, religious materials, banners and political signs etc, however not seeing the display, is the flag inside or outside the apartment? If the flag is inside the apartment and the blinds are open the company can’t say much, legally, because it would be inside the dwelling, to ban it would also mean that one could not hang, say,  curtains as they can be seen from the outside.

But the American flag is not an ordinary flag, the American Flag is the premier symbol of our country, Francis Scott Key didn’t just see some scrap of cloth when the bombs were bursting in air, he saw the American Flag, it wasn’t a t-shirt that was raised on Iwo Jima. If we cannot display our own flag in celebration, in honor then when and where can we display it?

It is moments like this that make me wonder how close we are to zero hour. How close are we to having to fly it upside-down?

Reading the news

In the few moments I had today I saw the story that Obama is sending troops (national guard) to secure the southern border in Arizona.

Now forgive me if this sounds a bit “tin foil hat” but do we REALLY think Obama is intending on the troops to secure the southern border? Then again maybe I am a bit paranoid.
